Elderly Man Innocent Ugwuja Seeks Protection from Enugu State
Innocent Ugwuja, a 72-year-old man from Ebo-Umabo autonomous community in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, has appealed to the state government and the Nigeria Police Force for protection after being allegedly banished from his community. This banishment followed accusations that he caused a leg wound to his younger brother, Simon Ugwuja.
Innocent Ugwuja, a father of six, made this appeal while staying at his daughter's residence in Awka, Anambra State, where he is currently taking refuge. He claims he narrowly escaped being lynched and described his escape as divine intervention.
Innocent denied the allegations and offered to swear an oath to prove his innocence, but his pleas were ignored. He returned to his hometown four years ago after retirement.
He also reported that his children showed him videos of his funeral rites being performed in the community and an obituary announcement was posted on a family member's Facebook page. The traditional ruler and the President-General of the community declined to comment, while the Police Public Relations Officer stated they were unaware of the incident.
