80% of Nigerian Students Now Have Bank Accounts: NDIC

The Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) announced that 80% of Nigerian students now operate bank accounts, highlighting a significant shift towards financial inclusion. This announcement was made by Zayyad Abubakar from the bank examination unit of NDIC during an event in Minna on Thursday, which marked World Savings Day 2026.

The NDIC has been actively engaging students to embrace saving habits, yielding positive results as 80% have opened bank accounts. Tanko Ibrahim from the public affairs unit of NDIC delivered a lecture titled "Build Financial Resilience," emphasizing the importance of saving.

The event, which included participation from 200 students across 10 states, aimed to instill a culture of saving and investment among the youth. The NDIC also reassured that bank insurance accounts are protected, and issues related to account registration and BVN will be resolved promptly, ensuring that students can confidently engage with banking services.
