NDIC Promotes Financial Literacy in Awka Schools

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) conducted a financial literacy event for secondary school students in Awka to mark World Savings Day. The event aimed to educate young Nigerians on the benefits of saving and the importance of starting early to secure their financial futures.

The theme of the event was "Not Just a Savings Account," featuring speakers such as Ms. Phoeb Ugot, a manager at NDIC, and Mr.

Chidi Nwoko, the zonal controller. They highlighted various saving methods, contrasting traditional practices like hiding money in piggy banks or mattresses with the advantages of using licensed banks.

Ms. Ugot emphasized that savings in approved banks are insured by NDIC, ensuring that funds remain intact.

Mr. Nwoko discussed the different types of banks available in the country and the benefits of utilizing them.

The event was welcomed by Mr. Amaka Anaekw, who expressed gratitude to NDIC for raising awareness in schools, alongside representatives from the Anambra State Commission for Education.
