• This Day • Business
Zacch Adedeji, the current chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in September 2023. He is tasked with transforming Nigeria's tax administration amid economic challenges, including high inflation and low investor confidence. Adedeji, who holds a first-class degree in management accounting, has already demonstrated his capability by surpassing tax revenue targets. In 2021, the NRS collected 6.405 trillion Naira, exceeding the 6.401 trillion Naira target. By 2023, tax revenue rose to 12.3 trillion Naira, with projections indicating a collection of 28.3 trillion Naira by 2025. Adedeji's strategy includes consolidating the tax system with four new tax laws and enhancing transparency through technology. He aims for a revenue target of 40.7 trillion Naira by 2026, focusing on reforms in petroleum royalties and non-oil tax generation.
