39th Lisabi Festival Celebrates Egba Heritage and Unity

The 39th Lisabi Festival took place in Abeokuta from March 23 to March 28, 2026, culminating in a grand celebration at the historic palace grounds. This year's festival, themed around the Egba heritage, showcased a spectacular display of traditional culture, uniting various Egba subgroups, including Ak, Owu, Ok Ona, and Gbagura.

Hon. Lanr Oyegbola Sodipo, the chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, highlighted the importance of cultural preservation and community development.

He noted the successful implementation of solar power streetlight projects that have transformed 50 communities and empowered 1,500 market women through a microcredit scheme. The festival honored Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, an 18th-century warrior, and featured traditional dances and a cultural fashion show.

The event underscored the deep connection between leadership and cultural stewardship, with a commitment to honor the past while embracing progress for a sustainable future.
