Enugu State's Economic Ambition Under Governor Mbah

Enugu State, established on August 27, 1991, from the old Anambra State during General Ibrahim Babangida's military administration, has a rich historical and geographical identity. The name Enugu, derived from the Igbo expression “Énú Ugwu,” refers to its hilltop geography.

The discovery of coal in the Udi Hills in 1909 positioned Enugu as a vital industrial center, further enhanced by the Eastern Railway line completion in 1916. Enugu served as the capital of the former Eastern Region and the Republic of Biafra during significant historical events.

Since its creation, Enugu has experienced various administrations, with Chimaroke Nnamani (1999-2007), Sullivan Chime (2007-2015), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (2015-2023) preceding the current governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who took office in 2023. Mbah's administration aims to transform the economy from an estimated $4.4 billion to $30 billion, focusing on restructuring the relationship between government, citizens, and businesses, encapsulated in the slogan “Tomorrow Is Here!”.
