Enugu State Ranked Fastest Improving in Nigeria's Index

Enugu State has experienced significant development over the past three years, leading to its recognition as the fastest improving state in Nigeria, according to the 2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Momentum Index. The index, which assesses the rate of improvement relative to the national average, awarded Enugu a Momentum Score of +1.15, surpassing 32 other states.

Governor Peter Mbah has been instrumental in this progress, asserting that the achievements thus far are merely the beginning of a larger vision for the state. During the 55th Convocation Lecture at the University of Nigeria Nsukka on July 23, 2026, Mbah delivered a lecture titled “Restoring the Dignity of Man: Enugu’s Quantum Leap in Human Development and Inclusive Prosperity Through Experiential Learning.” He discussed the importance of imagination in governance and criticized the lack of vision among many political leaders in Nigeria, indicating that his administration aims to overcome such challenges.
