Magnus Onyibe Launches Book on State Police in Abuja

Magnus Onyibe's book, "The Imperative of State Police in Nigeria," is set to launch on September 10 at the Abuja Continental Hotel. This publication enters the national conversation on state police as support for decentralized policing grows within the Presidency and the National Assembly.

Since Nigeria's return to democratic rule in 1999, the debate over state police has gained urgency due to the country's deteriorating security situation, characterized by kidnappings, banditry, and insurgency. Onyibe, a veteran columnist and public affairs analyst, presents a well-researched case for restructuring Nigeria's policing system, avoiding emotional rhetoric.

The launch event, themed “Explaining the Grey Areas of State Policing: The Case, the Strategy, the Operations, and the Framework,” aims to foster serious engagement on the topic. Vice President Kashim Shettima will chair the event, with participation from National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, and several governors and lawmakers.

The book includes contributions from respected authorities, with Professor Anthony Kila providing the foreword and retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Alapini contributing the afterword.
