Senator Barau Advocates for State Police Bill Safeguards

Senator Barau articulated the significance of the state police bill during a live program on Radio Nigeria Kaduna. He described the bill as a strategic reform initiated by President Tinubu to address Nigeria's insecurity challenges.

The proposal has undergone extensive legislative scrutiny, including public hearings across six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Barau highlighted the multiple safeguards built into the proposal to prevent the misuse of state police powers.

He clarified that the intention behind the state police bill is to complement, not replace, the Nigeria Police Force, thereby strengthening grassroots security through local recruitment. The senator reassured Nigerians that the bill includes measures to protect against political interference and ensure proper funding and operational capacity.

He expressed confidence in the support from state houses of assembly for this initiative, urging Nigerians to embrace the necessary reforms for improved peace and security.
