AAC Requests Aso Villa for Sowore Campaign Council Inauguration

Omoyele Sowore's African Action Congress has submitted a petition to President Bola Tinubu requesting permission to stage its Presidential Campaign Council inauguration at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The party's National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminioghena, signed the correspondence on October 21, 2026.

Beyond securing the venue, the AAC also sought catering provisions and logistical assistance to support the November 11, 2026 ceremony. The party grounded its appeal in concepts of multiparty democracy and political inclusiveness.

According to the AAC, permitting an opposition campaign event at the nation's primary seat would signal governmental commitment to treating all political entities fairly. Such an arrangement, the party contended, would align with fair electoral engagement principles as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

Reporting varies regarding the scale of anticipated attendance and requested resources. Multiple outlets document that the AAC sought food, beverages and various logistical arrangements.

However, one account references an expected attendance figure of roughly 5,000 people at the proposed ceremony. Confirmation of the precise number of anticipated participants remains inconsistent across different news reports.

President Tinubu received the formal letter at his Official residence. No public declaration regarding approval or denial of these AAC requests has emerged from the Presidency to date.

The proposed gathering would occur approximately thirteen months before voters head to the polls in 2027.
