ABA to Host Referees' Clinic for Basketball Development

The Amateur Basketball Academies Association is set to conduct a three-day referees' clinic from July 9 to July 11, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of officiating in preparation for the association's inaugural national championship.

The clinic will attract male and female participants aged 17 to 25 from the Federal Capital Territory and neighboring states. The ABA board approved this initiative during a meeting held at the multipurpose indoor sports hall of the stadium.

The program will combine theoretical and practical sessions to equip participants with the necessary technical knowledge and court skills for effective officiating. The curriculum will cover basic mechanics, court positioning, rotation techniques, and foul identification.

The association believes that developing competent referees is essential for the overall growth of basketball in Nigeria, which will help produce officials capable of representing Nigeria in international competitions.
