Aba's Garment Industry Could Rival Oil Revenue, Says Obi

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, expressed that the garment and footwear industry in Aba, Abia State, has the potential to rival Nigeria's oil revenue if effectively managed. During his visit to Aba, he engaged with stakeholders and highlighted the economic potential of the region, which is popularly known as Enyimba City.

Obi commended the efforts of Abia State Governor Alex Otti in developing Aba and recognized the contributions of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe. He emphasized the necessity for Nigeria to transition to a consumption-driven economy, focusing on product-based industries.

In an interview with Magic FM, Obi reiterated that Aba remains a significant hub for garment and shoe production, which could yield substantial earnings comparable to oil revenues in countries like Bangladesh and Vietnam. He identified leadership as a critical factor in unlocking the country's economic potential and stressed the importance of competent governance for national development.
