Edo Varsity Students and Travelers Rescued from Kidnappers

On July 12, 2023, three students from Ambrose Alli University, Edo State, identified as Favour Okoroj (21), Balogun Precious (19), and Prais Obagbalu, were abducted in Esan West Local Government Area. A joint security team traced the kidnappers' hideout, leading to a rescue operation on July 14, during which a suspect was killed and others fled, abandoning the captives.

In a separate incident, seven travelers were rescued along the Riyom highway in Plateau State after troops responded to a distress call on Monday night. The military operation led to the discovery of an abandoned Opel Vectra near Sopp village, prompting a search that resulted in the confrontation with the kidnappers, who subsequently fled into the bush.

The troops are intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Peter Ekpen Adolor, a 300-level student, was shot dead while attempting to open a gate during the abduction.
