Abdulsalami Abubakar Denies Babangida Discussed June 12

Former military head of state Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar revealed that Gen.

Ibrahim Babangida did not discuss the annulment of the June 12, 1993 elections with him, despite being a high-ranking military officer at the time. This disclosure was made during an event surrounding the death of Gen.

Sani Abacha on June 8, 1998. Abubakar also addressed the claims regarding the death of Chief MKO Abiola, insisting that autopsies conducted by pathologists from four countries attributed Abiola's death to natural causes, not poisoning.

This information is detailed in Chapter 21 of Abubakar's autobiography titled "Call to Duty," which was publicly presented in Abuja. The event coincided with the 84th birthday of President Bola Tinubu, who praised former leaders for their roles in Nigeria's return to democracy.
