Abdulsalami Abubakar: MKO Abiola Not Poisoned, Natural Causes

Former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar disclosed that MKO Abiola was not poisoned, as previously speculated. This statement was made during the launch of his autobiography titled "Call to Duty" in Abuja on a Saturday, which also marked the 84th birthday of MKO Abiola.

Abubakar stated that an autopsy conducted by pathologists from four countries attributed Abiola's death to natural causes. He emphasized that Abiola had pre-existing medical conditions, including hypertension and heart ailments, dating back to 1994 when he was first detained under the Abacha administration.

Abiola collapsed during a meeting with an American delegation, which included Tom Picker, the U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, and Susan Rice, the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.

Abubakar expressed disbelief that Abiola was poisoned, noting that his family had requested the autopsy.
