Abia govt brokers peace in Amaokwe Item over Town Union leadership crisis

The Abia State government successfully mediated a peace agreement in Amaokwe Item following a leadership crisis within the Town Union. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, urged the community to prioritize peace and unity, with Governor Alex Otti providing support for peaceful coexistence.

The government warned against any further crises and emphasized the need for respect for traditional rulers. The community acknowledged the leadership crisis and agreed that the current leadership would continue until a new one is elected in a general election scheduled for August 17, 2025.

The State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs will oversee the election to ensure a smooth and transparent transition of leadership in the community.
