Abia Intensifies Quest to Discover More Kanu, Chukwueze, Others

Abia State is intensifying its efforts to discover new football talents through the conclusion of the Abia Soccer Fest Tournament in Umuahia. The tournament aims to unearth hidden talents that could follow in the footsteps of Nigerian football legends like Nwankwo Kanu and Samuel Chukwueze.

The grassroots football league, themed "Grassroots Greatness," kicked off on August 23, 2025, and will run across 184 state wards and progress to the local government level. The overall champion will be crowned at the state final.

Ambassador Eric Asomugha, speaking to journalists in Umuahia, emphasized the need for stakeholders to support the tournament by sponsoring teams at all levels to ensure full representation. Asomugha highlighted the abundance of talent in Abia State that needs to be discovered to create employment opportunities and nurture future football stars.
