Abia Parents Recover Illegal Graduation Fees from Schools

Parents in Abia State are recovering illegal graduation fees that were collected by both public and private schools. The Abia State Government, under the directive of Goodluck Ubochi, has mandated schools to start refunding these fees, which were deemed unauthorized.

The government reiterated its ban on graduation-related charges, except for pupils completing primary 6 and senior secondary school 3 (SS3). Parents who had already paid these fees are now demanding refunds, with some private schools instructed to deduct the fees from statutory school fees.

Reports indicate that the fees ranged from N2,000 to N12,000 per pupil. The state government aims to provide financial relief to parents and has threatened heavy sanctions against schools that violate these regulations.
