34 Inmates Sit for First School Leaving Certificate Exam

The Abia State Government conducted the 2026 First School Leaving Certificate examination for 34 inmates at the Umuahia and Aba Correctional Centres. Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, announced this during a briefing on the outcomes of the State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti.

The examination was facilitated by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Abia State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, reflecting the government's commitment to making education accessible to all citizens. Of the 34 participating inmates, 15 were from the Umuahia Correctional Centre and 19 from the Aba Correctional Centre.

Additionally, Governor Alex Otti has instructed the immediate deployment of intervention measures for gully erosion sites in Amamba-Uzuakoli and Ipupe-Ubakala.
