Dignitaries Celebrate Obasanjo's 89th Birthday in Abeokuta

On Thursday, dignitaries gathered in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to celebrate former President Olusegun Obasanjo's 89th birthday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun praised Obasanjo for his enduring influence on leadership and public service in Nigeria and Africa.

He recalled Obasanjo's administration from 1999 to 2007, noting significant reforms such as the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and telecommunications transformation. Abiodun urged African leaders to emulate Obasanjo's purpose-driven leadership, highlighting his role in conflict resolution and diplomacy across the continent.

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi described Obasanjo as a consequential statesman whose leadership has shaped Nigeria's political trajectory. The event attracted various dignitaries, including former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku and musician Charlie Boy, who paid tribute to Obasanjo's contributions to democracy and development in Africa.
