Obasanjo Celebrates 89th Birthday, Advocates Leadership

On Thursday, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo celebrated his 89th birthday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta. During the event, he reflected on his decades of leadership and the importance of ethical, visionary leadership across Africa.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Executive of the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute, Professor Adedeji Daramola, and Professor Elvi Otobo, Obasanjo highlighted that his longevity should be viewed as a responsibility to continue contributing to society. He stressed that Africa's major challenges stem from a lack of quality leadership and urged emerging leaders to prioritize public interest over personal gain.

Martin Agwai, Director of the Institute, praised Obasanjo as a transformative leader whose impact on human development is unparalleled. Jean Pillard, Haiti's ambassador to South Africa, acknowledged Obasanjo's role in promoting African unity and regional cooperation.

The celebration marked a significant milestone in Obasanjo's leadership journey, which includes 47 years in power and 27 years as an elected president.
