ABU VC Ahmed Urges Students to Prioritize Critical Thinking

During the 2026 Post Graduate Matriculation ceremony at the PG School in Samaru campus, Zaria, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Ahmed, warned that artificial intelligence (AI) should not replace critical thinking. He stated that AI should complement students' intellectual efforts and enhance research, learning, and academic administration when used properly.

Ahmed advised students to verify AI-generated information and avoid plagiarism, fabricated references, and presenting machine-generated content as original work. He highlighted the university's commitment to improving postgraduate education by strengthening academic supervision, communication, and access to services, aiming for timely graduation.

Additionally, he mentioned initiatives to support students, including guidance on ethical AI use and creating an inclusive environment for students with special needs and international students. Prof. Oluyinka Okubanjo, Provost of the Postgraduate College, reiterated the institution's focus on enhancing supervision and support systems for successful postgraduate completion.
