ABUAD Promotes Local Herbal Medicines to Combat Imports

Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) in Ado Ekiti is promoting Nigerian-made herbal medicines to decrease the country's dependence on foreign products. Oluwatoyin Afolabi, Deputy Director of AB Pharmaceutical Services, stated that Nigeria's reliance on imported herbal products is an economic and medical issue that needs urgent attention.
This initiative was highlighted during a two-day AB Pharmaceuticals Business Summit organized by ABUAD in collaboration with pharmaceutical marketers. At the summit, ABUAD showcased three products: AB Mal, ABUAD Virucidine, and AB Health Animation 250mg.
Afolabi emphasized the need for Nigerians to embrace local medicines, recalling the historical reliance on traditional remedies before orthodox medicine. She criticized the promotion of foreign medicines over local alternatives and called for a revolution in the mindset of Nigerians towards their own products.
ABUAD Vice-Chancellor, Prof Smaranda Olarinde, also stressed the importance of reducing dependence on imported pharmaceuticals.
