AC Milan Legend Franco Baresi Passes Away at 66

Franco Baresi, an iconic defender for AC Milan and the Italian national team, passed away at the age of 66. AC Milan confirmed his death in a statement, expressing deep sorrow and recognizing his profound influence on the club.

Baresi's career spanned over two decades, during which he made more than 700 appearances for the Rossoneri, leading them through a highly successful era. He was known for his exceptional game intelligence, leadership, and tackling skills.

In 1999, he was voted AC Milan’s Player of the Century, and upon his retirement in 1999, the club retired his No. 6 shirt. Baresi underwent surgery for a pulmonary nodule in August 2025, which raised concerns about his health prior to his death.

His contributions to football were acknowledged globally, including being named one of the 125 Greatest Living Footballers by Pelé in 2004 and his induction into the Italian Football Hall of Fame in 2013. Baresi was also part of the Italian squad that won the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
