ADA Threatens INEC Chairman with Contempt Suit

The All Democratic Alliance (ADA) has issued a threat to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), due to the commission's refusal to provide the access code required for the party's registration. Aminu Ahmed, the Protem National Secretary of ADA, stated that this refusal has hindered the uploading of essential details such as party officials, office addresses, and administrative staff names, as mandated by INEC Guidelines and Regulations.

The ADA claims it was one of eight political associations pre-qualified by INEC for registration. The association demands compliance with a Federal High Court order that required INEC to issue the access code within 72 hours of the court's judgment, which should have been completed by July 2, 2026.

As of August 10, 2026, INEC had not complied, prompting ADA to set a 48-hour deadline for compliance before pursuing contempt proceedings against Amupitan and other relevant officers.
