Adamawa APC Crisis Deepens as Mijinyawa Defects to APM

The crisis within the Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has escalated as former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and current lawmaker representing Yola South, Kabiru Mijinyawa, defected to the Action Peoples Movement (APM) on September 13, 2026. Mijinyawa's defection was prompted by the APC's failure to maintain internal democracy, transparency, and the rule of law, particularly highlighted during the recent primary elections.

His departure follows that of another group led by Tahir Shehu, who urged the APC leadership to address grievances among its members to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections. Additionally, Abdulraman Haske, previously alleged to have won the APC governorship primary, is now the APM governorship candidate after being replaced by Ahmad Galadima.

Similar issues arose in senatorial contests, leading to further defections, including Peter Fwa to the Labour Party. The APC dismissed these defections as “political tourism,” asserting its grassroots strength and confidence in winning the upcoming elections.
