Adamawa Assembly Speaker and 13 Lawmakers Defect to APC

In a significant political shift in Adamawa State, Speaker Bathiya Weslei, Deputy Speaker Moham Jijidwa, and 13 other lawmakers from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move comes as Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is expected to formally announce his defection to the APC.

The lawmakers have not yet officially announced their new political party but indicated their intent to join the APC. The letter detailing their defection cited internal divisions within the PDP at the national level as a primary reason for their departure.

This wave of defections began a few days prior, with a total of 15 PDP lawmakers, including former Speaker Abubakar Abdullahi and former Deputy Speaker Pwamwakeno Mockondo, leaving the party. The defection of these lawmakers marks a significant political realignment in the state, reflecting ongoing tensions within the PDP.
