ADC Demands Action as Petrol Price Hits N1,470 Per Litre

The African Democratic Congress has cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over petrol costs, which have climbed to N1,470 per litre across multiple areas. This surge presents grave concerns for the economic circumstances of average Nigerians, the party contends.

In a statement released Tuesday and signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the organization's National Publicity Secretary, the ADC stressed that when fuel prices rise, schooling costs, power bills, fares, and food prices all follow suit throughout Nigeria. The cascading consequences of expensive petrol have placed everyday purchases beyond what most households can afford, party officials argue.

Tuition at private schools has jumped by 30 to 40 percent, the ADC highlighted, while transport fares and grocery prices have similarly increased. These mounting cost pressures have created what the party characterizes as circumstances pushing Nigerians dangerously near the edge of what they can tolerate.

Policies adopted by the administration are driving this economic hardship, the ADC contends, though the statement did not specify which policies. State-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited alongside private fuel retailers have both raised prices throughout the nation.

The party warned that failure to act swiftly will allow deteriorating economic conditions to worsen further. Various political groups have issued public statements responding to the fuel price increases, with the ADC's message representing one such response.
