ADC Deregistration Suit Adjourned to May 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, has adjourned the hearing of a suit seeking the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) until May 18, 2026. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, involves arguments from various parties, including the ADC's counsel Shuaib Enejo and Musibau Adetunbi, representing the sixth defendant.

Adetunbi urged the court to suspend further hearings, citing an ongoing appeal at a higher court that could affect the proceedings. The ADC's counsel argued that the appeal should be resolved within a week, while the plaintiff's counsel, Yakubu Abdullahi Ruba, contended that the appeal does not automatically halt the trial court's proceedings.

The court also addressed applications for joinder from other political parties, including the Action Alliance, Action Peoples Party, and Zenith Labour Party, with the next hearing scheduled for May 18, 2026.
