ADC Questions Alleged N10bn Ransom for Abduction Victims

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over reports that a ransom of N10 billion was paid for the release of victims abducted from St. Mary's Catholic School in Papiri.

In a statement signed by Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC called on the federal government to clarify these allegations, which suggest that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu made the payment to secure the release of two senior Boko Haram commanders. The ADC welcomed the safe return of the abducted individuals but warned that confirming such a payment could undermine national security efforts.

The party noted that the authorities had previously denied any ransom payment following the victims' release and emphasized the need for transparency to maintain public trust. The ADC criticized the government's inconsistent policies regarding ransom payments, stating that no serious government should compromise national security principles for political expediency.

They urged the federal government to provide a clear account of the events surrounding the abduction and rescue operation.
