ADC Caucus Demands INEC Chair's Removal Over Bias

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Reps Caucus has demanded the immediate removal and prosecution of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, citing allegations of partisanship that could undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections. During a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Monday, the caucus expressed serious concerns regarding Amupitan's ability to oversee free and fair elections, particularly following public comments that appeared to favor the ruling party.

The caucus highlighted that Amupitan's alleged partisan statements and the questionable ownership of a social media account linked to him raise significant doubts about INEC's impartiality. They warned that if the situation remains unaddressed, it could damage public confidence in the electoral process.

The ADC caucus also criticized INEC's involvement in internal party matters, which they believe exacerbates the leadership crisis within the ADC, particularly in light of disputes involving former Senate President David Mark and rival factions within the party.
