ADC Reps Caucus Demands INEC Chair's Removal Over Bias

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Reps caucus has demanded the immediate removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, due to allegations of partisanship that could undermine the integrity of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

This resolution was made public on Monday, April 13, 2026, by the caucus leader, Afam Ogen, following a meeting in Abuja. Concerns were raised regarding Amupitan's ability to serve as a neutral umpire, especially after recent statements attributed to him that were perceived as compromising and partisan.

The ADC caucus accused INEC of intervening in internal party matters, particularly regarding the recognition of rival factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala, which has led to a leadership crisis within the party. The caucus expressed that INEC's actions could prevent the ADC from fielding candidates in the forthcoming elections, thus calling for a judicial investigation into the alleged partisan conduct of INEC and its leadership.
