Atiku Abubakar Signs $1.2M U.S. Lobbying Deal

Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria's former Vice President, signed a $1.2 million contract with a U.S.-based lobbying firm on March 10, 2023, as part of his strategy to contest for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 elections. The contract, registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) on April 1, outlines a 12-month engagement where the firm will provide strategic advisory services, manage Atiku's reputation, and engage with U.S. policymakers.

The agreement aims to advance understanding of Atiku's leadership vision and strengthen relationships with U.S. institutions. Atiku has a history of engaging U.S. lobbyists dating back to his vice presidency from 1999 to 2007, including previous contracts for advocacy services.

He is expected to compete against Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party's candidate in the 2023 presidential elections.
