Atiku Abubakar Signs $1.2M U.S. Lobbying Deal for 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has engaged the services of the Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten Montagu York L.C. in a deal worth $1.2 million for a duration of 12 months. The agreement, signed on March 10, 2023, and formally registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) on April 1, 2023, aims to provide strategic advisory services to enhance Abubakar's engagement with U.S. policymakers. The firm will focus on reputation management and influence U.S. government officials on issues related to Nigeria, including economic development and regional stability. The contract outlines four key objectives: advancing understanding of Abubakar's leadership vision, strengthening his reputation in Washington, countering narratives from the current administration, and building structured relationships across U.S. institutions. This move comes as Abubakar seeks the presidential ticket from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 elections after his recent departure from the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
