Nigerian Minister Stresses Addressing Poverty Alongside Migration

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Bernard Boro, highlighted the importance of addressing poverty alongside migration during the 2025 National Migration Dialogue in Abuja.

He stressed that poverty is a significant driver of irregular migration, especially among vulnerable populations like the six million internally displaced persons in Nigeria. Boro called for policies focusing on durable solutions, community stabilization, and social cohesion to tackle the root causes of migration.

The government's interventions aim to empower communities, particularly women and youth, to reduce forced migration and promote safer migration choices.
