AEDC Boosts Power Supply by 15% and Cuts Losses

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), led by Managing Director Chijiok Okwuokeny, has announced a 15% increase in power supply over the past year, alongside a reduction in Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses from 42% to 32%. This improvement was disclosed during a media briefing in Abuja, where Okwuokeny outlined the company's operational gains and strategies for stabilizing supply across its franchise areas, which include the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Niger, and Nasarawa states.

AEDC aims to enhance customer satisfaction by deploying 70,000 meters through its Meter Asset Fund (MAF) scheme and plans to construct three 10-megawatt solar plants to diversify energy sources. Additionally, AEDC is set to enter bilateral power supply arrangements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to source electricity from a 350-megawatt plant in Gwagwalada, expected to be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

The company is also addressing challenges such as power theft and vandalism to improve service delivery.
