Wilfred Ndidi Named New Super Eagles Captain After Troost-Ekong's Retirement

Wilfred Ndidi has been appointed as the new captain of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, following the retirement of William Troost-Ekong. Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon have been selected as vice-captains.

Ndidi recently led the team in a match against Morocco during the group stage of the AFCON 2025 tournament. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had previously submitted a challenge regarding the eligibility of a DR Congo player for the World Cup playoffs, seeking FIFA's intervention to potentially expel the player and give Nigeria a lifeline in the competition.
