Super Eagles Train in Akwa Ibom for AFCON Qualifiers

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have begun their training camp in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state, with the arrival of captain Wilfred Ndidi, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, and winger Samuel Chukwueze, bringing the total number of players in camp to 23. Head coach Éric Chelle is preparing for Nigeria's opening Group L fixture against Madagascar on September 25, 2026, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Following this match, the team will travel to Guinea-Bissau for their second qualifying match on September 29. The inclusion of Ndidi, Chukwueze, and Nwabali allows Chelle to work with nearly the entire squad named for the qualifiers.

The Nigeria Football Federation had previously listed these players among a 24-man squad, which also includes first-time senior invitees Arthur Okonkwo, Isaac James, and George Ilenikhena. Nwabali's return bolsters the goalkeeping department alongside Maduka Okoye and Arthur Okonkwo, providing Chelle with experienced options as he finalizes his starting lineup.
