Super Eagles Assemble in Uyo for AFCON Qualifiers

The Nigeria Super Eagles squad has convened in Uyo to prepare for their opening Group L fixtures in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, facing Madagascar on September 25 and Guinea-Bissau away. Coach Eric Chelle has assembled a 24-man squad but had to make an adjustment due to Taiwo Awoniyi's injury-related withdrawal.

Awoniyi did not play for Nottingham Forest over the weekend due to suspension, as Coventry defeated his team. Among the goalkeepers, Maduka Okoye conceded one goal in Udinese's loss to Cagliari, while Arthur Okonkwo allowed three goals in Charlton Athletic's defeat.

Alex Iwobi stood out with a perfect passing record and seven chances created in Fulham's draw with Manchester United. Other notable performances included Calvin Bassey, who captained Fulham to a draw, and Frank Onyeka, who played the full match in Coventry's first Premier League win in 25 years.

The squad aims to secure crucial points in the upcoming qualifiers.
