Okoye Injured Ahead of AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

Maduka Okoye, the first-choice goalkeeper for Nigeria's Super Eagles, has suffered a shoulder injury during pre-season preparations with his Italian club, Udinese. This injury is expected to keep him out for the opening weeks of the 2026/2027 Serie A season.

Udinese manager Kosta Runjaic confirmed the injury, expressing disappointment but optimism for Okoye's recovery. Although the exact recovery period has not been disclosed, reports suggest he may miss the opening fixtures against Como and Monza.

In response to his injury, Udinese is actively seeking an experienced goalkeeper to fill the gap during his absence, with Norwegian goalkeeper Egil Selvik being one of the names linked to the club. The club aims to avoid rushing Okoye back into action, recognizing his importance to their long-term plans while ensuring stability in goal.
