Super Eagles Start AFCON 2027 Qualifying Training Camp

The Super Eagles have initiated their preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, with 23 players participating in their first training session at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday. Head coach Eric Chelle and his assistants conducted the session as players competed for positions ahead of the Group L opener against Madagascar on Friday.

Maduka Okoye, the Udinese goalkeeper, is the only player yet to arrive in camp, with the remaining 23 members of the 24-man squad present. The camp officially opened on Monday, with most players arriving on Tuesday.

Notable early arrivals included Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Taiwo Awoniyi, and first-time invitees Isaac James, Moses Usor, and George Ilenikhena. Other players in camp included Alex Iwobi, Semi Ajayi, and returning defender Ola Aina.

The Super Eagles will host Madagascar in Uyo before traveling to Bissau for their second Group L fixture against Guinea-Bissau on September 29. Nigeria is in Group L with Madagascar, Tanzania, and Guinea-Bissau, with Tanzania already qualified as a co-host.

The team will be without Victor Osimhen, who withdrew due to injury.
