AfDB Appoints Keyamo to Lead Africa Aviation Reform

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has appointed Festus Keyamo, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation, to spearhead the Africa Aviation Reform initiative. This program aims to mobilize substantial investments, totaling $7 billion, to support aviation development projects across the continent.

The initiative seeks to transform Africa's aviation sector, which currently contributes less than three percent to global air traffic despite the continent accounting for nearly 18 percent of the world's population. Keyamo's leadership is expected to improve investor confidence and strengthen Nigeria's influence within Africa's aviation space.

The AfDB's letter of appointment was disclosed in a statement, which also mentioned that Keyamo would be invited to the bank's annual meeting scheduled to be held in Brazzaville, Congo. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize Africa's aviation ecosystem and enhance coordination across the continent's air transport industry.
