AfDB and IITA Launch $16.61M Climate Agriculture Grant

On Friday, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) signed a grant agreement worth $16.61 million in Abuja. This agreement marks the launch of the third phase of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program, which aims to scale climate-resilient food production across Africa.

The initiative seeks to modernize African agriculture through proven technologies, stronger seed systems, and deeper collaboration among research institutions, governments, and private sector players. The new phase is designed to expand climate-resilient farming practices across 35 million hectares of land and is expected to consolidate earlier gains while accelerating deployment in vulnerable countries.

The program will focus on scaling innovations and strengthening delivery systems, aligning with broader efforts to transform Africa's food system and build resilience against climate shocks. The funding comes from the African Development Fund, utilizing the bank's concessionary lending window.
