DSS Closes Wiretapping Case Against Nasir El-Rufai

On Tuesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) concluded its wiretapping case against former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai after presenting two witnesses, including a DSS personnel. The case was brought against El-Rufai, who is a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on allegations of wiretapping telephone lines related to national security.

El-Rufai's lawyer, Chief Paul Erokoro, informed the court of the defense's intention to file a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution failed to establish sufficient evidence against the defendant. Justice Joyc Abdulmalik granted the defense two weeks to file this submission and similarly allowed the prosecution two weeks to respond.

The court also declined to vary the bail conditions for El-Rufai, which included a bail sum of N100 million and requirements for sureties. El-Rufai was ordered to report to the DSS headquarters monthly and deposit his valid international passport with the court.

The case is set to continue on September 22.
