Senate Admits Governors for State Police Bill Debate

The Nigerian Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, has reversed an initial decision to exclude governors from the chamber during the debate on the State Police bill. After a brief delay, Akpabio invited the governors and senior officials to participate in the discussion, emphasizing the importance of their involvement as stakeholders.

A fresh motion was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, seeking the suspension of Order 12 of the Senate rules to allow the admission of visitors into the chamber. This motion received support from Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who commended Akpabio for his leadership and foresight in promoting broader participation in legislative discussions.

Among those admitted were Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, and governors Uba Sani of Kaduna, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Lucki Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.
