Atiku Abubakar and Presidency Clash Over Insecurity

The ongoing conflict between the Presidency and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar intensified over Nigeria's security issues, particularly following reports of 5,091 killings in violent incidents within three months. Atiku Abubakar, who is contesting the 2027 presidential election on the African Democratic Congress platform, condemned these figures as a failure of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to protect citizens.

In response, Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, stated that security forces had killed between 13,000 and 20,000 terrorists during the same timeframe and rescued at least 10,000 Nigerians from captivity. Ajayi accused Atiku of ignoring the government's security successes for political gain.

Additionally, Ani Iniedu, the Force spokesperson, claimed that violent crime had significantly decreased over the past six months, contradicting Atiku's assertions. This exchange highlights the contentious political landscape surrounding security in Nigeria.
