D’Tigress Drawn with France, South Korea, Hungary for 2026 World Cup

Nigeria's senior women's basketball team, D’Tigress, has been drawn into Group B for the 2026 FIBA World Cup, facing tough competition from European powerhouses France and Hungary, as well as South Korea. The tournament is scheduled to run from September 4 to September 13, 2026, in Germany.

Bab Ogunad, the first vice president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), stated that D’Tigress will be adequately equipped to face the challenges of the World Cup, emphasizing the need for a strong performance following their success in the African championships. Ogunad acknowledged the difficulty of the group, noting that the team will not approach the tournament lightly.

D’Tigress is expected to embark on a tour of the American Women’s NBA to prepare for the World Cup, although head coach Rena Wakama will not participate due to commitments with the Chicago Sky. The NBBF is focused on strengthening the coaching staff and evaluating potential personnel ahead of the tournament.
