Nigerian Military Denies Civilian Casualties in Zamfara

The Nigerian military has denied allegations of civilian killings during recent air and ground operations against terrorists in Zamfara State. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, addressed the claims on Tuesday night, stating that reports of civilian casualties are misleading and lack credible evidence.

The military conducted operations targeting high-level terrorist leaders in Tumfa village, Shinkafi Local Government Area, based on verified intelligence. They emphasized that airstrikes are designed to neutralize threats and do not allow for immediate casualty assessments.

The military dismissed claims made by Amnesty International, which reported that no fewer than 100 civilians were killed in an airstrike at Tumfa Market, calling for an investigation into the incident. The military reiterated its commitment to conducting operations in compliance with international humanitarian law and urged individuals and organizations to provide verified evidence rather than relying on unconfirmed social media reports.
