Military Denies Civilian Casualties in Zamfara Airstrike

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) responded to reports of civilian casualties following a military airstrike in Zamfara State, asserting that the operation was solely aimed at targeting terrorists. Major General Michael Omoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, issued a statement on Tuesday, clarifying that the airstrike occurred on Sunday, May 10, as part of a joint task force operation in Tumfa Village, located in the Shinkafi Local Government Area.

The military emphasized that intelligence indicated the area was being used by armed groups planning attacks on nearby communities. DHQ stated that while they could not immediately confirm casualty figures, they had assessed that several terrorists were killed during the operation.

They urged the public to refrain from relying on unverified information circulating on social media and to depend on official military updates for accurate details regarding security operations. The military reaffirmed its commitment to protecting innocent civilians and adhering to international humanitarian law during operations.
