Freight Forwarders Condemn Dollar Pricing of Containers

The Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), led by President Frank Ogunojemit, criticized Grimaldi Agency Nigeria for advertising the sale of empty shipping containers priced in US dollars. The association described this move as a direct affront to Nigeria's economic stability and a contradiction to the federal government's agenda aimed at strengthening the naira.

Grimaldi's notice indicated that 40-foot empty containers would be sold for $2,000 and 20-foot containers for $1,600, promoting bulk purchase discounts. Ogunojemit expressed deep concern over the timing of this advertisement, as the federal government intensifies efforts to stabilize the economy.

He warned that dollarizing domestic transactions could disrupt local content and undermine policies designed to promote confidence in the naira. Ogunojemit called for immediate intervention from the federal government, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Shippers' Council to enforce compliance with local currency transactions to prevent further economic distortion.
